This story
Three weeks after marrying Kelly in December 2016, Serene learned that back pain thought to be from manual work was secondary breast cancer that had spread to her spine. She had part of her spine removed and replaced with metal rods to relieve a tumour pressing on her spinal cord. After working back to full strength, Serene returned to work and continues daily medication, regular scans, and palliative support.
