Often the only Romany person in the lab, Marie launched a project to open science to Traveller communities.
This story
Marie worked in research for years, frequently finding herself the only Romany person in the laboratory. In 2021, she secured funding to start Science Travels, an initiative engaging Gypsy, Traveller, Roma, Showman and Boater communities in physiology while highlighting health inequalities. The work has since taken her to speak at Westminster and Holyrood, and she is now studying for a doctorate alongside running a teaching laboratory.
