At 18 months old, Jonah lost his ability to walk, sit and speak to viral encephalitis.
This story
In April 2023, 18-month-old Jonah became critically ill and was diagnosed with viral encephalitis that spread to his brain and spine. The illness took away all his mobility and speech, leading to weeks in hospital and specialised rehabilitation. Through intensive physiotherapy and speech therapy, he gradually relearned to move and talk, and is now running, laughing and riding a bike.
