Campaign idea: Iola won Wales Book of the Year
After recovering from alcoholism in her fifties, Iola found her voice as an author and won Wales Book of the Year.
This story
Iola loved creative writing from childhood, but self-doubt kept her from sharing her work until she entered recovery from alcoholism in her fifties. She went on to publish her Welsh-language memoir, winning the Wales Book of the Year Award in 2025. Now she facilitates writing workshops to give marginalized individuals a safe space to share their own stories.
