This story
After serving in the Second World War, George worked until retirement and spent decades with his wife Pat before she died of cancer. He has lived alone for 23 years, having also outlived both of his children. Through a local charity, he was matched with volunteer befriender Claire, who visits each week to help around the house, chat, and accompany him to the pub.
