Emma and her husband Steven balance full-time work shifts around caring for their son Kieran, who has quadriplegic cerebral palsy and a severe learning disability. Their older children, Tessa and Lukas, have supported them as young carers from the age of eight. Grants have allowed the family to take day trips to Glasgow and Edinburgh and travel together on holiday to Florida.
