Duncan was diagnosed with vascular dementia following several head injuries during his police career and a series of minor strokes. After initially struggling with fear and shock, he began attending a day club in Warminster, which transformed his perspective. He now prepares and hosts the club's weekly quiz, completed a fundraising skydive, and received an award for services to dementia.
