Royal Navy veteran Deryck experienced severe hearing loss after years working near radar and gunfire. In 2020, his wife Sandra died suddenly, leaving him living alone in complete isolation during the pandemic. In 2021, hearing dog Elroy arrived, alerting him to hazards like smoke alarms and giving him back his connection to the outside world.
