Make content about: Wendy found freedom with Carmen
Fragile skin once left Wendy trapped at home, but her assistance dog Carmen gave her independence back.
This story
Wendy was born with severe epidermolysis bullosa, a condition causing fragile skin, painful blistering and scarring that made everyday tasks dangerous. For over thirty years her husband Peter was her full-time carer, but assistance dogs transformed their daily life. Her golden retriever Carmen now helps her dress, collects dropped items, alerts Peter during breathing emergencies, and is officially recognised by the local council as a paid carer.
