Make content about: VIE Velo gets blind cyclists riding

VIE Velo pairs blind and partially sighted cyclists with front-seat pilots to explore routes across Edinburgh and beyond on tandems.

This story

The group began in 2018 after a conversation in a charity cafe and grew to around 15 tandem bikes. Sighted pilots steer and control the gears at the front, while blind or partially sighted stokers pedal and indicate from the back. They ride fortnightly across Edinburgh and nearby areas, pairing up for different route lengths and stopping for cake and chat.

Where you could take it

Join VIE Velo for a fortnightly tandem ride around Edinburgh to see how pilots and stokers coordinate on the road.
