Make content about: Young volunteers protect wild habitats

Young volunteers swap weekend lie-ins for practical conservation, gaining hands-on skills and confidence while protecting chalk grasslands and wildlife habitats.

This story

South Downs Youth Action brings together young people aged 16 to 25 for monthly practical conservation sessions across the national park. Volunteers tackle tasks such as managing chalk grassland, clearing invasive plants, repairing footpaths and restoring habitats, with travel expenses and lunch provided. The practical work gives participants new outdoor skills, teamwork and a boost to their wellbeing while caring for the landscape.

Where you could take it

Join the young volunteers for a conservation session in the national park to help clear footpaths, restore habitats and use traditional tools.
