Make content about: She supports people held in detention

After fleeing Malawi to live openly as a lesbian, an asylum seeker survived UK detention and returned to support others inside.

This story

She fled Malawi after facing the threat of forced marriage or death for being a lesbian, initially moving to the UK to study. Her attempts to claim asylum were repeatedly refused due to demands for evidence, leaving her homeless for a year and detained multiple times. Having lived in the UK for 18 years, she has waited five years for a decision on a fresh claim and has spoken out to support people held in detention.

Where you could take it

Sit down with her to discuss her experience of the asylum system and hear what drove her to speak out for people in detention.
