Make content about: Pupils created a wildlife haven
Pupils at a primary school in Carlisle turned an overgrown, rubbish-filled street planter into a thriving wildlife haven.
This story
An old brick planter on the street outside a primary school in Carlisle had become overgrown and littered. Children on the school council, aged 7 to 11, visited a wildlife nursery to see how plants grew and chose varieties that would feed and shelter insects. Supported by local volunteers and an education officer, the pupils cleared the ground and planted wildlife-friendly flowers, herbs, and a cherry tree.
Where you could take it
Visit the planter with the school council to see what has grown and inspect the insect shelters together.
