Make content about: Steve qualified as a lorry driver

Grief and addiction took Steve into psychiatric units. Now qualified as a lorry driver, he is preparing for a home of his own.

This story

After his wife Shirley died in 2015 and their son died in 2020, Steve turned to alcohol to cope and cycled through detoxes and psychiatric units. In March 2025 he moved to Emmaus Hertfordshire, finding routine and support to face his grief. He has since qualified and is working as a heavy goods vehicle driver, with plans to move into a home of his own.
