This story
Stephen's mum broke her hip after a fall and was admitted to hospital, but an untreated rash under her breast became infected and led to fatal sepsis in December 2025. After losing her so suddenly, Stephen wanted to highlight how quickly an infection can become life-threatening. He is taking on a skydive and a 50-kilometre ultra marathon in the Perthshire hills to raise funds and awareness in her memory.
