Make content about: Simon surveys Yorkshire butterflies
After retiring from a demanding career, Simon found quiet purpose and better wellbeing by surveying butterflies across East Yorkshire.
This story
Simon retired as an oil company chief geologist after a fractious end to his working life. Wanting to spend more time in the countryside, he volunteered to run weekly butterfly surveys on a small chalk quarry reserve near his home. In his first year, he recorded 18 different butterfly species and found the quiet routine helped his wellbeing.
