This story
After arriving in the UK from Kabul with her family, Shukria lived in a Manchester hotel before moving to a permanent home in Bradford. Having not been allowed to work, shop or go outside alone in Afghanistan, she initially felt nervous and could not speak English. She joined classes in English, maths and computer literacy two mornings a week, and now plans to go to college and become a hairdresser and beautician.
