After her symptoms were initially dismissed as post-labour complications, Nicola was diagnosed with Crohn's disease two years later. She went through five surgeries and severe weight loss before finding a treatment that helped. Following the death of her husband John from cancer, Nicola began writing a book in his memory and speaking out to raise awareness of bowel disease.
