Make content about: Mary sits with hospice families

After losing her husband, Mary started making tea at a hospice. Decades later, she still sits with families there.

This story

After losing her husband in her early forties, Mary started volunteering at a hospice, making tea and spending time with patients who had no visitors. Staff encouraged her to train as a bereavement counsellor, which led to years of relationship and youth counselling work. Following her retirement in 2022, she returned to volunteer on the inpatient unit, where she now spends every other Sunday visiting rooms and chatting with families.

Where you could take it

Sit down with Mary to talk about her decades of hospice volunteering and what it means to sit with patients and their families.
