Make content about: Lucy is carving cathedral stone
Lucy left a university history degree behind to learn traditional stonemasonry on centuries-old cathedral walls.
This story
After finishing school during the 2020 lockdowns, Lucy began a history degree but struggled spending every day at a laptop. She left after her first year to pursue a trade and joined an apprenticeship in historic building conservation. She now works as an apprentice stonemason at Gloucester Cathedral, learning traditional hand-carving techniques alongside senior masons.
