After losing his job left him sofa surfing, Leo found shelter, community and acceptance with Emmaus in Gloucester.

This story

After losing his job, Leo spent time sofa surfing and feared he would struggle to find a safe place to stay as a gay person. He joined the Emmaus community in Gloucester in December 2022, where he received support and began helping in their charity shop. Now 56, he is taking sewing lessons and learning British Sign Language as he prepares to move into a home of his own and return to work.

Where you could take it

Visit Leo at the shop to see how he sets up displays and practice some sign language with him.
