Make content about: Kris joined a new herd at Chester Zoo
Kris left his safari park home for Chester Zoo, tasked with helping save his endangered species from extinction.
This story
Three-year-old northern giraffe Kris moved from West Midlands Safari Park to Chester Zoo to join a resident herd. Matched on genetics, age and temperament, he joined five new housemates, including four older and taller females. His arrival is part of a conservation breeding programme to protect northern giraffes, whose wild numbers have dropped below 7,000.
