Starting secondary school brought intense anxiety, daily panic attacks and emotional-based school avoidance for James, leaving him out of school by January. His mum found a surf therapy course, where catching his first wave gave him a renewed sense of confidence. After finishing the six-week programme, he joined weekly surf club sessions, settled into a new school and now hopes to become a mentor.
